Our Story

GM2(SW) Samba Jarju was honorably discharged from the US Navy in 2012. Reentering the civilian world meant that he had to decide whether he wanted to a) continue in the security field as a private contractor, b) work for a three-letter agency, or c) pivot into a new career field. He decided on the third option, and he went to work for Intel Corporation as a semiconductor manufacturing technician for 3.5 years. At Intel, Samba learned about product design, research and development, and manufacturing.

As soon as Samba got settled in Arizona, his dad, Louis DuBerry, a Behavioral Health Specialist working for the Pasqua Yaqui Tribe, was diagnosed with an aggressive type of cancer, and given a short time to live. Samba made many trips between Phoenix and Tucson, and he brought things like plant medicine to try and help his dad with symptoms and pain. Before Louis passed in 2014, he asked Samba to leave a legacy for Tucson and beyond. In honor of this request, DuBerry Ventures LLC was formed with a vision of projects and activities that focus on compassion, community, and sustainability.

After losing her husband in 2014 and almost losing Samba in 2017, Lesa Langan-DuBerry has been a part of DuBerry Ventures LLC since day one. In addition to many years of personal caregiving experience, she was also a Peace Corps Volunteer who worked with sustainable food and agriculture projects in developing countries. Her training and skills include project management, journalism, and graphic design. She has used these skills to help develop the DuBerry Farms website.

In 2019, Kelly Davis and her business, Kelly’s Natural Aromatherapy, joined DuBerry Ventures LLC. Kelly has many years of experience working as a Medical Imaging Technician and Caregiver. Kelly lost her father in 2015, and she also used CBD and THC to help manage his symptoms and pain. Kelly has been an advocate for cannabis and plant medicine since then, and she specializes in aromatherapy, infusions, and topicals.

As a Digital Farmers Market, DuBerry Farms provides a platform to dispense plant medicine, vitamins, art, and eco-friendly wares. We will continue to add more products, and eventually produce, once our farms are fully operational.

The DuBerry Farms vision continues to evolve through the hard work, diligence, and input from Samba Jarju, Kelly Davis, Lesa Langan-DuBerry, Tatianna Ventura, Desiree Trowbridge, Krystal Berry-Hill, and many others who graciously donate their time and energy to this community focused effort.
